Report of some 2008/09 Scouting activities:

During the summer of 2008, Eagle Scout Andy Wood completed his Eagle Scout Service Project by building a fence at the end of Hunters Lane to protect the park visitors from wandering into an dangerous fall into the drainage culvert feeding Rock Creek. Andy’s fence was a split-rail design made of treated wood and will last approximately 40 years or more and was donated to the Parks Department as part of the Eagle project.

November 2008. Cub Scout Pack 1081, Boy Scout Troop 1083 and Venture Crew 1083 participated in the Scouting for Food drive on Saturday November 8, 2008. The Scouts in our neighborhood collected a full box truck full of stable food items for the needy from RCA residents – Thank You.

In December 2008, the Cub Scouts of Pack 1081, Pack 493, Boy Scouts from Troop 1083, several members of Girl Scouts from Troop 1028 and young ladies and men from Venture Crew 1083 joined the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and Santa in bringing joy to the youngsters in our neighborhoods. A great time was had by all and especially by the children of RCA-Land.

In April 2009, Cub Scouts from Packs 1081, 493 and 3600, Boy Scouts from Troop 1083, Ventures from Crew 1083 and Girl Scouts from Troop 1028 participated in the annual Potomac Watershed Cleanup day.

This summer 2009, Kyle Blakely will be installing sitting benches in the area at the end of Hunters Lane in the Franklin Park section of RCA-Land that Andy Wood worked on last year as his Eagle Scout Service Project. These benches will provide a comfortable setting to sit and read or just relax and watch the world go by at the curve in the running path as it crosses Rock Creek bridge into Winding Creek Park.
